Dallas Does It Again

Okay, so tonight I once again had to take Dallas in to the Dr for x-rays. His sister, who will remain anonymous due to her horrible feelings of guilt and sorrow, accidentally slammed his pinky in the door of the girls' bedroom during 'nap time' (which apparently is defined as the time for Dallas to keep sneaking into their room every few minutes (or seconds lol), annoying them to the point that his finger gets slammed/smashed in the door as they attempt to keep him from coming in). It was very indented, bruising and swelling quickly. He couldn't/wouldn't move it, so we iced it down and called the Dr.
We then had to take him in for x-rays. This was the aforementioned mishap which kept me from being able to finish Darilyn's timed quoting before church service. Thankfully, it doesn't appear to be broken, just horrible disfigured for the present time.
While waiting on the nurse to bring in the splint, Dallas and I were looking at the paper copy of one of the x-rays of his hand. We were discussing the bones and joints and were comparing them to how our hand moves. When discussing the thumb and its various joints, I showed him how the one closest to the wrist lets our thumb move and then had him do it. Then I showed him how the middle joint works, and he demonstrated that one as well. Last, of course, was the top joint. He made a fist and then wiggled his thumb at the top joint. "This one's for pushing the buzzer," he said. Spoken like a true up and coming Bible Quizzer. (And also giving me another entry into my "Kids Say the Cutest Thing" file.)
Anyway, hopefully it will be looking and feeling better soon. In the meantime, we will ice it and splint it as necessary and hope that our next trip to the Dr/ER won't be anytime soon!

Another trip to the ER

Okay, for all those wondering what this picture is about: This is what Dallas and I did Saturday night, May 17. I was giving him a quick shower before bedtime when he slipped and fell, busting his chin open. (I was holding his arm, but the fall happened so quickly I couldn't catch him.) We then spent a couple of hours in ER waiting to get it stitched up. So much for getting to bed at a decent time on Sat night! He was a real trooper. He cried when he first fell, but then didn't cry when they looked at it and cleaned (irrigated) it. He did however scream and required 3 people to hold him still when the 'numbing' shots were given. Apparently that medicine really burns. After a few minutes he was fine and laid perfectly quiet and still while they gave him 5 stitches. His eyes, into which I stared for this entire procedure, still told of the trauma, however, all red-rimmed and full of betrayal. And I was still shaking from the screaming episode even when it was all over with. All's well that ends well, though, and his stitches were removed last Friday, with none of the drama and fanfare. The NP even gave him the stitches to bring home in a little plastic container.

Train Wrecks and Toy Boxes

Okay, so the last couple of days have been full of cuts and band-aids. Sunday, Dallas threw a wooden train track, hitting Denae right below her left eye. She now has a slightly black eye and a cut. Monday, Delaney and Dallas were hugging and rocking back and forth. They lost their balance and fell, with Dallas hitting his forhead on the corner of a wooden toy box. This accident ended with a visit to the emergency room. His cut doesn't look bad now, thanks to the doctor and dermabond, but before it was puckered open with a hole in the middle. Appartently Dallas was a hit in the emergency department. One lady bought him a snack and an apple juice while Kevin and Dallas waited. And once they were in a "room", many of the nurses had to come by and check out the cute little three year old. Dallas loved all the attention! Anyways, hopefully that is it for us for a while.
